Zaingeree comments on Geelani's Wular kay Kinaray | Foes become friends | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 7 : When Geelani's bitter critic , Hasan Zaingeree was called to comment on Geelani's auto-biography Wular Kinaray (On the banks of Wullar) at a local hotel today, the audience watched with their fingers crossed. Old foes had become friends. He walked to the dias with a `majestic gait'. Geelani's open arms received him. They embraced. Later Geelani kissed his forehead. Hasan, who besides being a government servant writes for a local Engligh daily is known as `Geelani crusher'. He has written extensvely against Geelani. A strong supporter of former Jama't-e-Islami Chief, Ghulam Muhamamd Bhat, Hasan did not hide his hatred for the `strongest person of Kashmir'. Geelani. however, did not react himself. His supporters did and the dual continued for several years. Realizing that the people were curious about his presence in the function, hasan said: "When Altaf (Geelani's son-in-law) approached me with the manuscript, I pondered and pondered. Shall I write the preface or nor? I could not turn down the passionate request of Altaf and wrote the preface", he said. Hasan praised Geelani for `stand' and `dedication'. However, he made no mention of his relation with Ghulam Ahmad Bhat. In one of his articles hasan had described Bhat as a a great intellectual. Geelani's relation with bhat turned bitter in1997 when he disowned Hizbul Mujahideen. Geelani also accused him burying literature produced by Institute of Kashmir Studies (IKS)- an extension of Jama't--e-Islami. The Institute worked on huamn rights and produced more than 40 publications. The material, according to geelani, was thrown in the foundation of a building constructed by Jama't-e-Islami. |
