Jammu, July 7 : The Principle opposition party of the J&K state PDP is reversing the political notion that a party in power is always stronger and powerful and anytime a better option for people to associate with. If associating and joining any party with conviction is a parametre to guage the popularity of any political party, PDP has proved it that while in opposition it has the strength and acumen to draw prominent and commoners towards its fold.
Last two months scores of people joining the party voluntarily with a sense of commitment and confidence that this is the premier political party of the state which has emerged as a far better option in terms of the policies and programmes that can steer trouble ridden J&K out of turbulent times in future. The rhetoric of policies and programmes as also the ability to address needs and aspirations of masses, the observers see more and more people drawing closer to the party mainly on account of the political acumen and maturity its leadership has exhibited in crucial times. Pertinent to mention is the fact that people are not merely associating themselves by persuasion from the leadership of the party instead embracing it with a feeling of self reposed trust and credibilty coupled with a hope that their future is assured with this political force alone.
Most surprising aspect of PDP witnessing a joining spree for some time now is the fact that people in Jammu are putting in their trust in the party, something which was a far fetched option three years back when PDP withdrew itself from the power on Amarnath land row. In 2008 the agitation across the state saw people in the winter capital of Jammu abhorring this party to the hilt and were up in arms against its political decisions at that time over the issue. It is a reverse scenario at present when not only the people at the worker and cadre levels from other parties are joing in good great numbers but also some prominent figures have formally joined it. Be it senior political leaders or social activists or the noted businessmen of Jammu and even retired bureaucrats, quite few in recent past have sprung surprise in the political circles and power corridors over their decision to be in fold of PDP .
The inclination and attraction towards an established political force for any prominent figure from any field or the workers and cadres is a routine thing the game of politics but what makes it rather interesting and peculiar is that despite being in opposition with no indications of it assuming power seat soon, the party has managed to present itself as a stable political platform for those who joined in during recent past and others who came to its fold ever since it is in opposition. Whatever may be the be the belief and conviction of the people choosing to be with PDP, these developments are surely seen as shot in the arm for the party at a time when it is gearing up for its organisational polls beginning on August 1.While it has intensified its normal membership drive in both the regions with full might , joining by renowned and noted figures certainly augurs well for the party on all fronts.The new entrants at all levels are certainly enabling the leadership to further strengthen the party without much effort.
All these developments are surely thorny and prickly for the ruling rival NC which is cosying itself in the comforts and complaceny of being in power. High time for the biggest cadre based party to give a serious thought towards the manner its rival is slowly gaining and strengthening political ground, notwithstanding it being in opposition. |
