Fresh batch of 3303 yatris leave for Amarnath

Jammu, Jul 9 : A fresh batch of 3,303 pilgrims today left for Kashmir to perform darshans at the holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas Base Camp here amid rains and tight security arrangements.

"Another batch of total 3,303 pilgrims comprising 2180 male, 848 female, 77 children and 198 sadhus this morning left for the Amarnath in a convoy of 115 vehicles this morning at around 0435 hrs," a police spokesman here told .

They said 32 state road buses, 32 private, 50 light motor vehicles and a truck left for the cave from the base camp.

The yatra remained suspended yesterday from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes due to inclement weather.

2 pilgrims die on way to holy cave
Srinagar, Jul 9 : Two more pilgrims ''one each from Mumbai and Punjab'' died on way to holy Amarnath cave shrine, situated at 13,500 feet above sea level, official sources said here today.

With this a total of 30 pilgrims and a local porter have died, mostly due to cardiac arrest, during the pilgrimage which commenced from June 29 from both shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam routes.

Source said 18-year-old Lalit Singh, son of Kuldeep Singh, resident of Ambala, Punjab collapsed at Sheshnag on traditional Pahalgam-cave shrine route. He was rushed to nearby medical camp where he was declared brought dead.

They said 58-year-old Shakher Kashinath Sindhia son of Kashinath Sindhia, resident of Katkupar Mumbai suffered a massive heart attack near Cave shrine. However, he was declared brought dead in the health camp set up there.
