Gujjars being ignored in Jammu: JKGUF | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Gujjars United Front has expressed its anguish over the attitude of successive governments in Jammu and Kashmir in respect to the Gujjars and Bakerwals of the state. In a press statement, Anwar Choudhary Advocate President of the Front has demanded that Government should seriously consider the demands and problems of the Gujjars particularly the nomad Gujjars of the state for their permanent settlement. Instead of making efforts for permanent settlement of this nomadic community, the Government and its different agencies like JDA, SDA and Housing Societies have uprooted and deprived settled Gujjars of the State, alleged Anwar Choudhary. He has said that around Jammu city, where the people of this Community had farming and grazing land for centuries together and were entered in Khasra Girdwari in their names, the Government agencies have changed and distorted the record and made wrong entries in the name of JDA or have been entered as ‘Malik Sarkar’. Anwar Choudhary has demanded that in a number of cases there are forcible acquisition of land by the state and JDA and the poor farming community has been left with no land for faming and allied purposes. He has demanded restoration of so acquired lands to the community members on the analogy of recent Supreme Court Judgment passed in New Noida Land Acquisition matter, Anwar Choudhary has said that the Jammu and Kashmir United Gujjar Front is seriously contemplating to take few emergent matters of the community to the domain of judiciary, as the Government has failed to give justice to this community for the last 65 years and more particularly for the last 20 years when schedule tribe status was granted to it the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
