Over 2 lakh pilgrims paid obeisance at Baba Sidh Goria Shrine on day Ist | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SAMBA, JULY 10- A week-long annual fair of famous Shrine of Baba Sidh Goria at village Swankha started here with thousands of devotees from different parts of the States as well as from others States like Punjab, Harayana, Delhi, Himachal Pardesh. The devotees started pouring in the afternoon of 9th July, 2011 in the premises of the temple and were seen curiously waiting for their turn to pay obeisance in the wee hours and unending lines of devotees were seen throughout the day and about 2 Lakh pilgrims paid obeisance on the first day of the fair. The Shrine of Baba Sidh Goria is prominently known in the State and the devotees from different parts of the State and outside throng every year in the month of July and the Mela goes on for seven days and this village close to the International Border has come on tourist map, which is also providing economic activities to the locals of the area. The District Administration anticipating this huge gathering has made elaborate arrangements like drinking water supply, traffic regulation, power supply, additional buses for facilitating movement of people. A medical team consisting of Doctors, Para Medical Staff alongwith Ambulance has been stationed, besides a control room has been established where the magistrates alongwith other supportive staff are available round the clock to tackle any situation. MP, Mr Madan Lal Sharma also visited the Shrine of Baba Sidh Goria and paid obeisance. He also took a review of the arrangmens made for the smooth conduct of mela. District Development Commissioner, Mr Mubarak Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr Israr Khan alongwith senior officers accompanied the Ministers and gave details of the arrangements made by the district administration for smooth conduct of the mela. During the occasion, the departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Health, Education, Employment, Handicrafts, Handloom, Floriculture, Tourism, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry Departments have also put up their stalls to display the exhibits and schemes for the awareness of the public and to disseminate the benefits of these schemes to the general public.
