PAC for transparent implementation of CS schemes

SRINAGAR, July 11:

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Legislative Assembly has called for more transparent implementation of central sponsored schemes so that the benefits percolate down to the needy as visualized.
The Committee, which met here today under the Chairmanship of MLA Mir Saifullah discussed CAG’s Audit Report pertaining to Housing and Urban Development Department.
The Committee stressed on utilization of funds judiciously. The Committee also sought official record about expenditure, allocation and present status of different schemes of Municipal Corporations of both the capital cities and Local Bodies department for its examination.
It directed the concerned officers to achieve the targets in full by utilizing the earmarked funds within the stipulated time frame.
The Chairman asked the concerned to work with dedication and generate more revenue. He also asked them to furnish detailed report about the expenditure incurred under their own resources for its examination.
The Committee also sought official record about casual labours, daily wagers, contractual and adhoc engaged during last three years with name and parentage in SMC, JMC and local bodies for its examination.
Legislators, Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo, Syed Basharat Ahmad Bukhari, Muhammad Ashraf Ganai, Peer Mansoor Hussain and Naresh Kumar Gupta raised various issues of public importance and suggested various measures for the improvement in implementation of different schemes.
Earlier, Commissioner, SMC Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, briefed the Committee about the activities of the corporation. He informed that Rs 3.43 crore have been spent on the construction of 156 shops in 11 blocks at Bagh Nand Singh. He informed that 220 shops are ready and 156 have been allotted to the genuine venders. Sheikh Mushtaq also informed that Rs 79 lakhs have been spent on construction of drainage and macadamization of roads during the fiscal.
