JMC conducts anti-adulteration drive | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 11: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Health Officer along with a team of Food Inspectors continued drive to check the quality of food items especially in view of ongoing Amarnath Yatra. The team inspected about 200 food establishments including Milk & Milk Products shops / vendors, Cooked Food Dhabas, Restaurants, Fruit Juice Shops, Tea Stalls, Sweet Shops, Bakery Shops, Cut Fruits Reharies, Ice Cream Shops, Sugarcane Juice Reharies etc. in the areas of Gurudwara Sunder Singh Road, Exhibition Ground, Canal Road, MA Stadium, Bhagwati Nagar, Puran Nagar, Yatri Niwas, Talab Tillo, Camp Road, Poonch House, Akhnoor Road, BC Road, Bus Stand, Panjtirthi, CPO Chowk, Amphalla, New Plot etc. During the inspection 49 defaulters were booked under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. An amount of Rs. 10250 was charged as fine from the defaulters and about 70 Kgs of sweets, stale cooked food, Ice Cream which were not fit for human consumption were destroyed on spot. The team also seized polythene carry bags from various food establishments / other out lets who were using the polythene carry bags in these areas. Besides this, the enforcement staff of Jammu Municipal Corporation led by Chief Enforcement Officer while further continuing the drive removed the hoardings / sign boards / banners from the public places / poles from Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Greater Kailash, Gangyal, Digiana which were installed / displayed by various agencies / firms etc without permission. During the drive two truck loads of such material was seized and impounded the same in the Municipal Yard at Town Hall, Jammu The Drives were held under instructions from Commissioner JMC S C Sawhney.
