Uniform, I-card for ASHA workers soon Sham calls for making J&K self-reliant in health sector

JAMMU, JULY 11-Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr Sham Lal Sharma today inaugurated a District Health Mela organized on the eve of World Population Day at Domana, Jammu.
On the occasion, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr Ashok Sharma, Director, NRHM, Dr Yashpaul Sharma, Director Horticulture, Jammu, Mr Jia Lal Sharma, Director Floriculture, Mr K K Sharma, CMO Jammu, Dr Baldev Raj, CMO Gandhinagar Hospital, BMOs Akhnoor, R S Pura, Bishnah and Dansal, Deputy Director ISM, Deputy Director (Central), senior doctors, ASHAs workers and multi-purpose workers and other concerned staff were also present.
Addressing the senior doctors, officers and ASHAs workers at health mela of Jammu district, Sham called for close coordination between health department and field functionaries to extend medicare facilities to the people especially those living in the rural and far-flung areas of the state. He said that ASHAs and other field functionaries can share the common platforms by holding seminars, workshops and awareness camps to educate masses at gross root level.
The Minister lauded the endeavour of health authority for supplementary health care facilities to the civil population across the state. He said that ASHAs and other field authorities are doing excellent work in the field of health and other social sectors under the NRHM.
Mr Sham said that World Population has arisen seven billions and we are at second number of population after China. He said that after independent, total population of India 36 crore and in the Census-2010-11 over population arise upto 125 crore and J&K populations is also over 125 lakh.
Sham appealed to all the sections of the society to help in curbing the menace of female feticide. “The recent figures of census are eye opener for all of us. We have to give serious thought on this issue and taken corrective measures to improve the ratio”, he added. He asked the people particularly ASHA’s to create awareness among the masses against the female feticide and gender in equality. He said that government has given prize Rs.25,000/- for those who will give right information about female feticide and the government has sanctioned Rs.50 lakh for this purpose in state.
Assuring necessary logistic support to the field functionaries for carrying out different social activities in the state. The Minister said that government is keen to promote health care in collaboration with organizations willing to render cooperation. He suggested that doctors and BMOs for health department should also be invited in such seminars at block levels which can prove beneficial for both the organizations in improving the capabilities of manpower. He also called upon the medicos to render the services with dedication and missionary spirit and upholding the medical ethics at all cost. He said doctor’s paramount job is to save the life of his patient
