Model Villages Delay: Explanation sought from 12 BDOs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 12: Government has sought detailed explanation from 12 Block Development Officers (BDO) in Jammu region for delay in the completion of the Model Villages taken up in 2005 under the Prime Ministers Reconstruction Plan.
Sources said that Administrative department has been directed to take action against them and conduct detailed inspection of the villages taken by the government.
Villages which have remained incomplete include Dankote and Darhal in Rajouri Deri Dhara in Manjakote, Thather in Banihal, Gagrian in Mandi block of Poonch, Rajinder Singh Pura, in Purmandal block of Jammu, Akalpur in Marh block and Dullangal village of Duggan in district Kathua.
Officials said that about 57 model villages were taken up in Jammu region in phased manner and they were to be completed by March this year, but half of them have remained incomplete.
Sources said that officials had taken five months’ extra time from Prime Ministers Office (PMO) to complete the villages which will have all the modern amenities. These villages were to be inaugurated by August this year.
“We have asked the respective BDOs to give reason for the delay and give detailed report. Though many of them have been completed and awaits inauguration, but we are making assessment of the reason for the delay”, said a senior officer from the Rural Dev Department (RDD).
However, sources said that RDD has left Rs 1.82 crore meant for these villages unspent. Though, it was duty of Department to keep tab on the development of these villages. “Now they have put the blame on the officers to hide their inability to keep check on different executing agencies”, said an official source.
It is pertinent to mention here that model villages taken up in each block at the cost of Rs 1.20 crore per village.
Other facilities include common facility center, play ground, recreation park, and establishment of computer center and small shop-line for educated unemployed youth.
Out of the total 57 villages, eight fall in Jammu, four in Samba, seven each in Kathua, Udhampur and Rajouri, four each in Reasi and Ramban, five each in Poonch and Kishtwar while six in district Doda.
