Centre yet to approve Janani Susraksha Scheme in J&K | Redtapism, lack of planning at its worst | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 12: The centre has approved various schemes under health sector in different states to provide better health care facilities to the masses, but due to one reason or other the benefit of all these schemes are not being percolated to the people of Jammu and Kashmir due to improper implementation and the blockage of funds.
One such scheme, Janani Suraksha Abhiyan under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) was approved for the urban and rural population of the state last year. It was not the Central Government but State Government itself which took this intiative. All other states have that scheme with the funding from Centre.
Ironically, the State couldn't get the benefit of same due to prevailing red tapism and poor presentation.
According to sources, the said scheme was not sanctioned for Jammu and Kashmir, but the state government has been running the same from last year.
“Seeming the good response of the scheme the state government has sent the proposal to sanction the Janani Suraksha Abhyan scheme for Jammu and Kashmir under which every rural woman gets Rs 1500 after delivery whereas in urban area the amount in Rs 700” they added.
When contacted Director NRHM, Dr Yash Pal Sharma said the department received heavy response on this scheme, so we decided to get it approved from Centre also.
He further said that this scheme has proved helpful for the families belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL), but due to non sanctioning of the scheme from the centre State was not been able to provide sufficient funds to them.
“Keeping in view the death rate of mother and baby at the the delivery, the government had launched the said scheme” Sharma added.
