EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, July 13:-By retaining Farooq Abdullah in the union cabinet the Congress high command has indicated that the alliance with the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir was to last till the next Lok sabha and the Assembly elections in 2014.
And by not axing Ghulam Nabi Azad Prime Minister,Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson,Sonia Gandhi, have conveyed a broad hint that Azad will not be thrust on the state unit of the Congress. It has also indicated that Saif-ud-Din Soz may be allowed to had the PCC since the party high command is satisfied with his performance as PCC Chief.
Reports said that after the reshuffle in the union cabinet the Congress setup in Jammu and Kashmir was going to be reorganized shortly and as part of the reconciliation move some of the dissident leaders too may be accommodated in the PCC.
A number of senior Congress functionaries had hoped that from the Jammu region Madan Lal Sharma would be inducted in the cabinet as he has been elected to the Lok Sabha twice during the last six years.
They said that Ghulam Nabi Azad is a member of the Rajya Sabha and as such does not represent people of the region.
One senior congress leader said that Azad has remained in the union cabinet or has been functioning as the AICC general secretary for a number of years only on the strength of being a tested man of the Gandhi family.
The dissidents in the congress in Jammu and Kashmir have been jubilant over retention of Azad in the central cabinet .They said that in fact Azad was the link between the state's people and the centre.
However, the loyalists in the Congress, who believe that as union Minister Azad may again meddle in the party affairs in the state. They have again go to the party high command that Azad mot be restricted in interfering in the Congress affairs in Jammu and Kashmir. They blamed Azad for providing full support to the dissidents to campaign against Soz and other PCC office bearers which had eroded the congress bade in Jammu and Kashmir.(KIP)
