Mir inaugurates Agri Business Centre for farmers at Sohanjna
Asks farmers to adopt farm mechanization

JAMMU, JULY 13 - “Farm mechanization is on the priority list of the government and is being given a thrust by the Agriculture Department. An amount of Rs 349.96 lakhs has been provided to the farmers of Jammu Division as subsidy for purchasing farm equipments, tools and machinery such as tractors, threshers, motorized maize shellers, rotavators, irrigation pump sets, sprinkler sets, improved tools etc and for mechanization of seed multiplication farms of the department during the year 2010-11 under different centrally sponsored schemes.” This was disclosed by the Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir while speaking to farmers at a function organized to inaugurate an Agri Business Centre on custom hire basis at Sohanjna Block Marh established by J&K Agriculture Entrepreneurs Development Association (JKAEDA) with an assistance of Rs 5 lakhs as back ended subsidy provided by the Department of Agriculture Jammu.
Agri Business Centre is an innovative concept introduced by the Department of Agriculture Jammu for the first time in the state under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana to promote extensive use of machinery by the common farmers in the rural areas under Custom Hire Service system
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the Farm Mechanization is helping the farmers to boost the agriculture production and reduce labour and drudgery in farm operations. Adoption of innovative scientific techniques is also resulting in higher returns to the farmers and the Agriculture department was making all out efforts to increase production and productivity of crops by assisting the farmers to adopt latest technology in farming. In this connection an all time high 7000 qtls of the Maize seed of the best High Yielding Hybrid Varieties was distributed amongst the farmers of Jammu Division on subsidized rates during the current Kharif season which is expected to double the production of maize this year. He further said that an all time high 400 qtls of Hybrid Paddy seed on subsidized rates was also distributed to the farmers of this division which will also boost the production of paddy to a greater extent.
