Frustrated linemen to hold protest against PDD
11/27/2006 11:37:04 PM
Jammu, Nov 27
Frustrated lot of linemen, working in Power Development Department, running from pillar to post for the redressal of their long pending demands, have now decided to launch an agitation in protest against unwarranted delay on the part of the Government in regularizing the services of daily wagers.
The protest rally was being launched under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir electric department linemen and workers union and is scheduled to protest outside the office of Commissioner Power development corporation in Janipur on Tuesday.
Highlighting their genuine demands, President of the union, Mr Ghulam Nabi Bhat, said here today that besides regularizing the services of those linemen and switch board assistants, who have already put in 10 years service, the union’s another demand was that the confirmation period of daily wagers be reduced.
He said that at present the services of daily wagers were being confirmed after 10 years with the result they neither get grade one scale nor the full pensionary benefits.
He said that each lineman, on confirmation, should get a pay scale of Rs.4000-6000 so that at the time of retirement he could be in the grade of Rs.5150-8300.
The union also has demanded that risk allowance be paid to each employee of the Power Development Department.
He expressed concern over nonpayment of salary to linemen and switch board assistants for the last several months.
He also wanted concession to PDD employees in power consumption as those working in State Roadway corporation, Medical Department and Railways had been provided several concessions.
It also demanded that Rs.25,000 be paid immediately to the next of the kin of the victim for which funds to the tune of Rs.15 lakhs be earmarked annually.
Mr Bhat said that all those daily wagers who had put in seven years service be confirmed and all the arrears be paid to each one of them.
