JURSEA laments over delay in construction of stadium in Jammu
7/13/2011 10:44:13 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, July 13: In a press conference held here Rakesh Chib President JURSEA has taken a strong note of the delay of coming up of Stadium in Jammu which was promised by the Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Cricket Association that the work will start in June. He said that no initiative has been taken yet by the JKCA to start its work in Jammu.
He also said that the establishment of international standard cricket stadium at Jammu was simply an eye-wash as Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister and president JKCA failed to lay foundation stone on the proposed stadium site on June 29 and admitted that the area was a flood zone.
JURSEA members further alleged that Goni was misleading the court and throwing the JKCA constitution to the winds by unconstitutionally representing the International Cricket Club (ICC) in the recently held JKCA elections at Srinagar.
The JURSEA members said that Goni was withdrawn from the JKCA Working Committee on October 30, 2009 by the Modern Cricket Club (MCC), the club he had represented in the April 2009 JKCA elections, when he was elected chairman of the association.
“At that time, rather than resigning from the association on moral grounds, Goni manipulated his nomination from Kishen Chand Cricket (KCCC) and instead of getting it approved by the all authorized Working Committee, got it approved by his political boss, Dr Farooq Abdullah, thus throwing the JKCA constitution to the winds as this process gave rise to three working committee members from a particular club, which was simply the violation of rules and violation of constitution as well.
Terming the refusal to the club presidents in changing their earlier nominations as violation of the constitution, the JURSEA members said that the JKCA constitution allows the presidents of its affiliate units to change nominations at any time as and when required. “The handout issued by the JKCA on the other day that the changes in nominations were not allowed and possible as per the rules stand null and void as such a statement is again the violation of JKCA constitution,” members maintained.
Meanwhile, the JURSEA leaders have appealed Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to intervene in the matter and set the things right as soon as possible, to help the cause of cricket in the state.
Among those who were present in the press conference includes Shafqat Malik, Kamaldeep Singh, Mohd. Maqeem Ansari and Layaqat Ali.
