Mumbai blasts worst face of terrorism: Geelani
7/14/2011 10:00:12 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, July 14 (KNS): Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Thursday termed Mumbai blasts were the worst face of terrorism.

Condemning the blasts, Geelani in a statement said, “Killing of an innocent is unforgivable and perpetrators should be brought to justice.”

Geelani said that India had been facing such attacks from long time and there was no link of terror attacks with a particular group. “The terror attacks can not be linked to a particular party or a group. It is the people from different classes who are involved in such inhumane acts,” he said.

The Hurriyat Chairman said such people have some personal motives and they are ‘mentally sick.’ “In order to vent their anger they spread terror and target innocent people. States should look over the peoples’ woes and see if there are some loopholes in the governance,” he said.

“Governments should on their part survey people and see if there are some injustices being done to the citizens. It is their responsibility to see if this is not the outcome of state repression,” he added.

Geelani said that such events occur when people are subjected to cruelty. “Social injustice and economic exploitation could also be the cause of terror,” he said.

Terming terror threats in India alarming, he said that authorities should think over the increasing threats and chalk out a policy to do away with it. “To block Mumbai like happenings, think tanks should meet over the issue and chalk out the remedies which can stop terror,” he said.

The Hurriyat chairman said that there were many areas which were caught in such problem and they need to end it. “It the problem of whole humanity and we need to see if there are some who are subjected to cruelty,” he said adding every country should contemplate over economic, political, social and military policies to combat terrorism.
