Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rajouri organised training programme for farmers | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 14: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rajouri under the aegis of SKUAST-J and auspices of Directorate of Extension Education organised one day training programme on “Intercropping of Maize with legumes” at Kotranka in which a large number of farmers were made aware of the benefits of growing legumes along with maize.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr A P Singh, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) told the farmers that legumes provide additional advantage of fixing nitrogen in the soil thereby acting as a potent natural source of nitrogen and caretaker of soil fertility.
Besides, farmers were also trained about various improved agronomic practices of maize viz., selection of promising hybrid seeds, ideal legumes to be used as intercrop, seed treatment, plant spacing, nutrient management module as per the stage of the crop and on soil test basis, and other inter-cultural operations owing to increase the agricultural productivity per unit of land and per unit of time.
Dr S B. Singh, Programmed Coordinator, KVK, Rajouri also briefed the farmers about the various schemes of KVK which may benefit farmers.
While interacting with the farmers several queries were solved and ideal solutions were devised keeping in view the location specific conditions and the maize production constraints being encountered by the farmers of the area.
