| 2 SPOs, minor girl killed in road mishaps | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 14: Two special police officers (SPOs) and a minor girl were killed in separate road accidents here since Wednesday night.
SPOs -- Neelam Singh and Shadi Lal -- were last night manning a police naka near Baggi nullah at Batote, about 110 km from here on Jammu-Srinagar road, when they signalled a truck (JK02AX/8101) to stop for checking.
However, instead of applying brakes, he sped away and in the process the truck ran over the SPOs, according to police sources.
One of them died in Batote hospital while another succumbed to injuries on way to the GMC hospital here.
Sources said when driver Mohinder Singh of Gadigarh increased speed of the truck, he lost control over it as a result of which it overturned. He was injured and hospitalised.
The Batote police had registered a case against him.
In another incident, a motorcycle, which was being driven by a minor boy, rammed into a tractor-trolley at Chouadi Morh here, resulting in the death of a girl and injuries to another pillion rider.
The dead was identified as Bano (13), daughter of Noor Mohammad, and the injured as her cousin Andresh Mohammad (13), son of Ghulam Nabi, both residents of Chata. The boy, who was driving the mobike, fled the spot unhurt.
Andresh was admitted to the GMC hospital. |
