Students exasperated with callousness of JU professors | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 15: The students of Jammu University (JU) are losing faith in the university, the reason being the callousness in paper checking. Re-evaluation process made for the students’ satisfaction has been made a trend for the students. The university professors are alleged to be careless by the students during paper checking time. Unsatisfied with the marks, every year about 20% of the regular enrolled students fill up their re-evaluation forms. Many cases of the students have been witnessed where marks of students raise by 15-20 marks after the exams. This raises questions about the seriousness of paper checkers. Monika Thappa, a student of BA part-III, said that she was failed by the university in Education subject but when she re-evaluated her paper she got 15 more marks. She asked that why the university professors do not pay attention at the checking time. She added that many students are poor to afford the re-evaluation fee. Ramesh Gupta, a student who studies in MAM College and resides in Bishnah, said that the university professors do not check the exams carefully. Hence depriving the student of the marks they should get. He added that the university administration every year make a hike in the re-evaluation fee as last year it was Rs 360 and this year they have increased Rs 40 per subject which is difficult for poor students to pay. He complained that even the university authorities do not give the copy of the exam papers the students. When Controller of Examinations GM Bhatt was asked about this matter, he said that the professors while checking the papers are under stress as they have to check a heavy bulk of papers. He said that the university is deciding to adopt new pattern for the exam papers to decrease the stress upon the professors and even the copy of the papers will be given to the desired students of graduation under RTI whereas master’s degree students are already permitted to have the photocopy of their papers. When asked about the yearly hike of the re-evaluation fee, he said that they are permitted to hike the fee by 10 to 15% every year and the money goes to the government and not the university.
