| CCI condemns PDD for propsed hike in electricity tariff | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 15: Chamber of Commerce & Industry Jammu strongly condemn the move of Power Development Department for proposing steep hike in electricity tariff for all class of consumers in the state to the State Electricity Regulatory Commission .
Expressing deep concern Satish Gupta secretary General lambasted the state government for its ineptitude and callous attitude toward this vital issue as the proposed increase will affect each and every consumer.
Chamber wonders what has prevented the state govt. from carrying on proposed and much needed reforms in this sector so for.
Chamber asked the government what steps it has taken to check transmission and distribution losses highest in our state. Our whole transmission system collapses with slight increase in wind velocity or thunder storm.
Why no action has been taken to streamline transmission system and why the unscrupulous who steal electricity have not been nabbed and punished .The easy and temper proof way to prevent the distribution losses is to replace existing conductors with cables. Why no step has been taken to arrest these distribution losses.
While Jammu district, Samba district, Kathua district has been completely metered why metering could not be completed in rest of the state. Why no serious efforts have been made to recover huge electricity arrears from various state government departments. Mother Nature has been very kind and liberal in bestowing her blessings to our state but it is very regrettable that we have not been able to tap our natural resources.
The chamber said that hiking the tariff will not solve the problem. What is needed to cure this chronic disease is drastic surgery. Chamber hopes that the State Electricity Regulatory Commission will take all these facts in consideration while disposing off the petition of Power Development Department.
