Cong leaders from Jammu men of courage & conviction...?
"Martyrs' Day" Pays floral tributes to 'martyrs' of 1931 at Srinagar

Early Times Report
jammu, July 15: The people of Jammu province, barring a very few, and the Kashmiri Hindus consistently criticise those who pay tributes to those killed in police firing near the central jail, Srinagar, on July 13, 1931. They oppose those calling July 13 "Martyrs' Day" saying those who got killed on that day 80 years ago were those who had raised a banner of revolt against the Dogra Maharaja, Hari Singh, and demanded separation from the Jammu Kingdom. They describe the death of 22 Kashmiri Muslims on July 13 as the immediate fall-out of the worst form of communalism and separatism they indulged in to accomplish what the critics of the "Martyrs' Day" call "sinister design." It was only natural that they observed July 13 as "black day" in Jammu to register their protest against those who observe the day as "Martyrs' Day." Some of them even demanded that there should be no holiday on July 13, as it tantamount to an insult to the Dogra Maharaja and the Dogras" and even "Kashmiri Hindus, who had suffered immense losses on that day at the hands of the religious bigots."
Just at a time when sections of the people of Jammu were observing "Black Day" and throwing light on what actually happened in Srinagar on July 13, 1931, senior Congress leaders and ministers in NC led regime were paying "floral tributes" to the so-called martyrs at Mazar-i-Shuhda ("Martyrs Graveyard") at Khawaja Bazar, Srinagar. Some of them included GR Kar, Bashir Ahmad Magrey, Abdul Majid Padder, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Mohammad Anwar Bhat, Farooq Andrabi, Mohd. Sultan Mundoo, Habibullah Hamdani, Ghulam Mohammad Shiekh, Abdul Gani Khan, Aftab Ahmad Beigh, Shameema Raina and Shameema Sopori. One of the senior Congress leaders even went to the extent of saying that "it is the duty of every segment of society to commemorate the sacred sacrifices of these great martyrs."
The ministers from Jammu joined their colleagues in the Congress on the occasion shows that they are men of courage and conviction and that they do not care for those who didn't take kindly to what they did at Srinagar on July 13. They are one of the few leaders in Jammu who pay tributes to the "martyrs" of July 13 and those who sacrificed their precious lives for the cause of India in Jammu and Kashmir. In other words, they eulogize those (rebels) who fought against the Jammu rule and they also eulogize those who lost their lives while fighting against the Kashmiri rebels. Indeed, they are great leaders. They are not narrow-minded; they are broad-minded and that's the reason they are loved very much by Kashmiri leaders of all shades of opinion. What an irony!
