J&K: Congress, BJP on the same page | Political Settlement -- II | | Rustam EARLY TIMES REPORT jammu, July 15: The fact of the matter is that a powerful section in the BJP was with the NC in the past and its attitude towards the NC continues to remain the same even today. They continue to hobnob with each other. The proof: The cross-voting by the BJP legislators during the 2009 Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections and cross-voting on an unprecedented scale by the BJP MLAs during the April 2011 Legislative Council elections. The BJP MLAs voted for the NC candidates in 2009 and the BJP MLAs voted both for the Congress and the NC candidates in 2011. The suspended BJP MLAs say they voted for the party candidate. They also say that it was those not suspended by the parry high command who voted for the Congress and the NC candidates. The fact of the matter is that there are charges and counter-charges. Another proof: The BJP gave up its demand in 2008 that had been seeking the empowerment of Jammu province. Just look at its election manifesto and see for yourself what it stands for. There was nothing whatever in its election manifesto that could even remotely suggest that the BJP had or has anything for Jammu in its scheme of things. It was a deliberate omission. The empower-Jammu plank was dropped obviously to placate the Valley-based leadership. How else should one interpret the decision of the party bosses to give up its demand for the reorganization of the state in 2008? Yet another proof of the BJP having good relations with the NC is its overt support for the return and rehabilitation policy of the Pak-based militants as announced by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Yet another proof is that the BJP delegates to the roundtable conference did nothing whatever to rebut those who advocated the settlement of the so-called unsettled Jammu and Kashmir issue. On the contrary, they willingly and cheerfully walked into the trap of those who held the "RSS radicalization" responsible for the troubles in Kashmir. Reacting to this outrageous assertion of a Delhi-based delegate, one of the BJP delegates reportedly said in the conference: "Radicalism in any form is condemnable but it calls for courage of conviction so that while talking about (the) so-called RSS radicalism one does not shy away from referring to Islamic radicalism in Kashmir." The Delhi-based delegate had reported said: "RSS radicalism is carrying out Hindutva cultural invasion on Kashmir." These are only some of the facts about the role the BJP played between 2008 and till date. It is for the people to draw any conclusion. But one thing is very clear: The BJP has not lost its way; it has decided to tread the path the Congress and similar other formations have been treading since years to appease certain sections at the cost of the majority community and paramount national interests. It would be no exaggeration to say that the BJP is more harmful as compared to other parties because it gets votes in the name of nationalism and Jammu but pursues a path that only helps the parties like the NC. And, BJP is the only party in the country that has consistently diluted its ideology. It's no wonder then that there is no taker for the BJP in Jammu province. It's advantage the Panthers Party. The Panthers Party may emerge as an alternative, notwithstanding its acts of omission and commission. (Concluded) |
