Writ against recovery of 1000 crore Sales Tax | HC treats petition as PIL | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July-16 (JNF):- The High Court today treatewd a petition for recovery of Sales tax to the tune of Rs 6000 as PIL. The petition filed by Balvinder Singh & Ors in the State High Court seeks direction to the Commissioner/Secretary Sales Tax, Commissioner Commercial Tax J&K, Deputy Commissioner Commercial Tax Recovery Srinagar, Deputy Commissioner Commercial Tax Recovery Jammu, SSP Srinagar & Jammu to recover the amount of Sales Tax & Vat from all the defaulters who had failed to pay the sales tax under the J&K General Sales Tax Act and J&K VAT Act for which according to the petitioners no action has been taken by the respondents till date, such an amount comes to about to Rs 1000 crore and may be even more. There are about 861 defaulters who have evaded from payment of Sales Tax/VAT and complete list in this attached with the petition. Justice Virender Singh of Jammu & Kashmir High Court Jammu Wing after hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi assisted by Advocate Deewakar Sharma observed that the Court is of the considered view that the instant petition espouses public interest at large as huge public money sought to be recovered is involved as such deserves to be heard by an appropriate bench and directed the Registry to put this petition before the appropriate bench in the next week only subject to availability of bench. It is worth mentioning to mention here that there big businessmen of J&K are allegedly evade to pay the sales tax. JNF
