Plight of farmers worries Randhir Singh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 16: Former Minister Thakur Randhir Singh senior leader of CIFA in a statement issued here today said that the farmers are neglected by successive Governments of India and also by states because farmers are not united and do not have a lobby. Unfortunately they are divided linguistically, caste, community, religion and political basis. CIFA leadership under Secretary General P Chengal Reddy has decided to show our unity by declaring 10% CROP HOLIDAY. This non Cooperation movement by the farmers will indirectly help the farmers as it 10% less production will increase prices by 50% to 100% . Mr Singh said that 80% population of the country belongs to farmers and 80% deposits in the banks are from farmers and the same percentage in military , para military and in police are the children’s of farmers. This is very unfortunate that elected members of parliament and state assemblies by the farmers do forget the plights of the farmers after reaching in the respective houses of parliament and state assemblies. Singh a veteran leader said that CROP HOLIDAY is a Farmers Non Cooperation Movement, to show their protest, anger and frustration against Anti Farmer Policies by the central and state Govts . It is also an economic strategy wherein, 10% less production will increase your prices by 50% to 100% .Don’t cultivate crop in 10% of your land during 2011 Kharif. This unconventional approach is due to following reasons. The present MSP 1180 for wheat 1080 for rice is not remunerative for farmers. If the farmers include land value of Rs. 10 to 15 Lakhs and the interest there on the price of Wheat and Rice should be Rs. 2,000 per quintal During 2010-2011 the farm labour charges in all states increased to Rs. 250 to Rs. 350 per 5 hours work. The increased labour charges are half the cost of production. Therefore, the present MSP is totally un-remunerative . The Food Corporation of India and the State Governments are not procuring the Wheat and Rice even at the MSP. During 2010-11, Farmers are left with huge stocks of Food grains. This is causing many difficulties to farmers. Even though the International markets are high Rs. 80/- per Kg. of wheat and rice, the Government of India is not allowing exports of Rice, Wheat. During 1997 and 2007 the diesel cost increased by 300%, pesticides 150%, fertilizer 45%, steel 150% and Iron by 200% but the price of paddy, Wheat & sugarcane is increased by 35% only. How are the farmers of India to compensate the increased cost of production? Singh stressed for reservation for the children of farmers in Medical, Engineering, Agriculture, Veterinary, college and also jobs according to their population, Minimum wages be increased from Rs 125 to Rs 250 per day, Banning of polluted industries, Brick Kilns, Limestone Kilns and stone crushers in the areas adjoining the farmers fields throughout the state , Banning the sale of irrigated and fertile lands. Mr Singh welcomed the recent Supreme court verdict and asked the farmers of J&K also go to court for justice in the case of Ghati industrial estate and Samba Industrial estate and other areas where the govt has acquired their lands at very cheaper rates. Singh said UPA Government has implemented 5th and 6th Pay Commission reports, which increased salaries and facilities to Government employees. It also increased salaries of MPs by 100% and state legislature and Ministers more than 100 % . But the same UPA Government did not implement National Commission of Farmers report of Dr. M.S. Swaminathan. This Committee was appointed by Dr. Manmohan Singh and it has recommended that the price of Wheat and Rice and all other commodities should be fixed as Cost of Production plus 50% UPA Government did not implement the report even after four years. Why is the UPA Government neglecting the farmers?
