400 militants waiting to cross LoC from Pakistan: Lt. Gen Nehra
7/16/2011 10:19:36 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 16: General Officer Commanding of 16 Corps, Lt. Gen. J.P. Nehra today said that 400 terrorists are waiting across the Line of Control (LoC) to sneak into India but due to the heightened vigil maintained by the army, they have not been able to cross the border.
“There has been no infiltration from across the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir so far this year due to the heightened vigil of troops along the border with Pakistan.
Talking with media persons after launching the plantation drive in Nagrota, Lt. Gen Nehra said, “Because our troops are vigilant on the LoC, they are equipped with sophisticated equipments that enables them to see clearly even during the bad weather or during night," Nehra told reporters.

He said the army has set up a "multi-tier anti-infiltration grid along the LoC, which also has served as a crucial factor in checking infiltration".

Although there has been no activity from across the border after the July 13 Mumbai blasts, Nehra said, "if they do so, they will get a befitting answer".
The officer added that as per the army's information, there are 42 terrorist training camps across the LoC.
Earlier White Knight Corps started a special drive today to substantially increase the green cover in Nagrota Garrison and surrounding areas. In a solemn ceremony near the beautiful manmade lake in Nagrota garrison, the Corps Commander planted a sapling in the presence of a huge gathering of army officers and tneir families, who later participated in the drive by planting saplings in areas adjoining the lake.

The Nagrota Garrison already has a good about 20,000 healthy trees. Compared to surrounding areas, the garrison already has much better tree cover. However, the fresh air from the trees sees no boundaries. The areas around the garrison have seen reduction in tree cover in the past few years due to various development activities.

The GOC said, “Increase in population, vehicles and industrialisation pose a big challenge to the environment. Planting more trees is one of the answers to these problems.

Brigadier Sangra, the Station Commander gave a brief on the plantation drive being undertaken. He outlined the plan to increase the survivability of the plants. He also thanked the state forestry dept which supported the drive whole heartedly by providing the required saplings.
