VHP demands relief for dead Amarnath pilgrims | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 16: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today demanded that Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) should provide relief assistance to the pilgrims who died during Amarnath yatra. Addressing a press conference, VHP state president Rama Kant Dubey said that none of 50 devotees who died enroute to the cave shrine has been extended any type of financial help by the board, while people engaged for the conduct of yatra like laboures have been provided cash assistance in case of mishap. He alleged that SASB has totally failed to fairly deal with the pilgrims who visit the holy cave shrine from various parts of the country. “It is encouraging that so far 3.5 lakh pilgrims have paid their obeisance at the shrine, but very few measures have been taken to provide them required facilities by the administration”, Dubey alleged.
He appealed the Governor N.N Vohra to immediately provide financial help to the pilgrims who died during the yatra.
“While the Governor has shown urgency to sanction Rs 1 lakh as one time assistance to the family of Abdul Rehman Wani, a labourer who recently died of cardiac failure on the track, same urgency has not been shown to the nearly 50 pilgrims who have died so far”, he alleged.
He said that every year lakhs of pilgrims visit the shrine in Kashmir valley, but no step is being taken to create proper infrastructure for them. VHP leader alleged that despite tall claims of the authorities that every measure was taken before the commencement of the yatra for the welfare of the pilgrims, but yatris are facing lot of problems
