Harmonious cultural diversity makes J&K miniature India: Azad
‘Enemies of amity always made to eat humble pie’
11/27/2006 11:49:46 PM
Jammu, Nov 27
Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Sunday that India has since ages been abode of different religions, faiths, cultures and traditions and people world-over have learnt from this great nation how to live and flourish in harmonious diversity.
He was inaugurating 3-day spiritual convention of Christians here.
Chief Minister said that J&K itself is a miniature India where pluralistic cultural phenomenon has ruled the roost ever. Though, attempts have been made by the vested interests to disturb the socio-cultural détente of the state by flaring up emotional, regional and religious propaganda, yet, they have always been made to eat the humble pie as the peace always withstood such onslaughts and unity of people foiled every bad design of vested interests. Mr. Azad said that secular temperament and living in an atmosphere of equality and democratic set up has been J&K’s outstanding secular feature always.
Reminding the people of the high values of humanism preached and propagated by great apostle of God, Hazrat Eesa, peace be upon him, Chief Minister said that teachings of Jesses Christ would always guide mankind to be compassionate, patient and endeavour for upliftment of poor and sufferers.
“No religion teaches hatred and discrimination. It is the vested interests who exploit religious sentiments of people and present religion according to their wishes to led astray people and gain benefits”, Mr. Azad maintained. He said fanaticism and hardcore approach has always wedged people apart, adding that “we have to fight against such elements who are behind creating divide in the society on the name of creed, caste, colour and religion”.
Mr. Azad said that insult to injury is that religious sentiments are being intermingled with politics for political gains and caste and regionalism fanned for the same purpose. “This trend needs to be suppressed altogether”.
Chief Minister said Jammu and Kashmir has once again to be showcased globally as a seat of secular traditions and co-existence, removing the stigma of violence and blood-shed from it created by violence-mongers during the period of militancy.
He hoped that 3-day spiritual convention will circulate the message of love, brotherhood and amity and play an important role for strengthening the secular fabric of the country as also helping peace and prosperity. He called upon people especially youth to learn about all religions and develop a temperament of tolerance and mutual trust.
He said the government’s attitude to carry development activities to every area without any consideration of creed, caste or region is evident by its people-centric policies aimed at equitable development. Chief Minister said economically backward areas and people are receiving focus of attention in the development scenario and every effort would be made to bring them at par with affluent people.
Referring to the demands projected on the occasion by leaders of the community, Chief Minister said that proper attention would be paid to look into the demands.
Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, MLA Mr. Yogesh Sawhney, Mr. S. M. Gill and Bishop P. K. Samantrai also spoke on the occasion.
Besides the delegates of various states, a large number of people attended the convention.
