7 days police remand for all four accused | Kishtwar Sapphire smuggling case | | Early Times Report Kishtwar, July 16: Munsif Judge Kishtwar Vinod Kumar today granted 7 days police remand to all the four accused including 3 Sri Lankan nationalist arrested by the police on Friday night in connection with the smuggling of precious Blue Peacock neck colored Sapphire from Padder Kishtwar. Kishtwar police under the supervision of Sub Inspector Anjum presented all the four accusedMohammed Ikram Son of Abu Hassan, Mohammed Shah Bin Qasim Bin Hattar Son of Zaabur Bin Sultan Izakore, Akber Qasim Son of Azhar Al Zehrat all residents of Berola, Tehsil & District Kalutara Srilanka. The local contact accompanying them has been identified as Ramesh Kumar Son of Diwan Chand Thakur of Village Sounder Dachan district Kishtwar and prayed for 10 days police remand and instead, Munsif Judge Kishtwar grants 7 days police remand for all the accused and directed the police to keep regular health checkup of all the four accused. Meanwhile even after the lapse of more than 24 hours, Kishtwar police fails to provide any details regarding the exert quantity of the Sapphire seized from all the four accused. There are conflicting reports regarding the actual quantity of the seized Sapphire. People believes that with the involvement of International gang of smugglers, the quantity could be at higher side, since the 3 Sri Lankan nationalist have possible spent lacks of rupees to reach Kishtwar from Sri Lanka. As far as the role of the involvement of employees of Geology and Mining department is concerned, Kishtwar police is still working on various modalities regarding the actual quantity of extracted Sapphire from Sapphire mines of Suncham Padder and for this Kishtwar police is likely to scrutinize the record of Geology and Mining Department for which necessary procedure as warranted under law is being followed. Not only, the role of Geology and Mining Department is under scanner for increase in number of Sapphire smuggling cases, but the role of Padder police also come under scanner as to who these Sapphire Smugglers manage to reach the Sapphire mines at Suncham village situated at the height of over 14000 ft above the sea level having no human population and how the arrested smugglers managed to get out from clutches of Padder police as beside the mines are located at very difficult location and one needs to cover the distance by foot which requires at least 4 days to a person to manage access to the Padder Sapphire mines. Moreover the area beside lacks human population also remain covered with several feet's of snow for most part of the year and only it was during the month of July-September, the employees of Geology and Mining Department visited the area for extraction of Sapphire. During all these months, police also established a police post at Suncham village few kilometers short from famous Sapphire mines. It was alleged that during said period I.e. from July-September, the Sapphire smugglers keeps their fingers crossed for getting an access to these precious Sapphire gems in convince with some local Sapphire smugglers operating in the area having full knowledge of various routes leading to Suncham Sapphire mines. It is worthwhile to mention that Jammu and Kashmir Government from last so many years plan to auction these famous Padder Sapphire mines at international level but the project could not be materialized till date, the reason best known to the Government.
