No tax evasion: JAMKASH
‘Rs 140 crores deposited as Sales Tax in 8 years’
7/17/2011 9:49:46 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, July 17: JAMKASH Vehicleades Pvt. Ltd., (Authorized dealers of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.) today clarified that their company was not in any default or arrears on Sales Tax/ VAT and was ready to face any scrutiny in this regard.

A spokesman of the company said that the JAMKASH was an honest tax payer and had deposited more than Rs 140 crores as Sales Tax/ VAT in the last eight years of its operation. “We dismiss the wrong impression being created in a section of press and by certain vested interests against the company,” he said.

The spokesman said that the JAMKASH had also produced a no tax liability statutory commercial tax clearance certificate under section 57(1) of the Jammu & Kashmir Value Added Tax Act, 2005 which clearly states that the company has no tax liability under the Jammu & Kashmir Value Added Tax Act, 2005 as on 14th July, 2011.

He said, “We are given to understand that in an RTI response the Sales Tax Department has listed a disputed demand of Rs. 45,56,367 which was not raised in 2006-2007 as is being erroneously reported but in fact raised in an assessment order passed in March, 2010 whereby the assessing authority levied a demand of tax liability of Rs. 15 lacs on account of goods not traded or sold but consumed within the workshop for facilitating services to the customers like car shampoo, uniforms, waste cloth, cement, medicines, paints, thinner and wax polishes which were never traded or sold and are essentially consumables, and as such the JAMKASH found the order bad under law and justifiably challenged it before the first Appellate Authority in May 2010 and the same is stayed and pending in appeal before the Appellate Authority.”

“This fact is stated in the Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes (Recovery) Jammu vide his letter No. DCCTRJ/775 dated 12.07.2011,” he added.

The spokesman further said that the Vehicleades Group is proud of the fact that they are the fourth largest dealers of Maruti Suzuki India Limited in the country, having employee strength of more than 4300 spread across Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and New Delhi, and have earned a name for themselves for their professionalism, integrity, honesty and quality service to the customers. He also mentioned that Vehicleades Group has even been publically recognized by Himachal Pradesh Government & Punjab Government for being honest sales tax payers and known for their honest dealing and uprightness.
