Tree Talk and plantation at Trikuta Nagar Park | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 17:- A Tree Talk with plantation was today organized at Trikuta Nagar Park, sector 5, Jammu by a large number of morning walkers and tree lovers. Van Sampda a noted NGO for taking up environmental issues, arranged this Tree Talk cum plantation programme. Addressing the gathering, President of the society Mr K R Padha IAS reiterated that plantation in this season must be given top priority because they require less caring to grow these days. Besides the plants do give us life supporting aids such as oxygen and nitrogen etc. K K Sharma Director Floriculture Department Jammu briefed the gathering about the traditional use of the local plants. Amaltas which is locally called karangal, he told that its flowers and pulp are edible. This tree is also called as golden shower tree. It blooms in April-May, when whole of the tree turns yellow. About its medicinal values, Mr Sharma apprised that its fruit pulp is used as a mild laxative against fevers, arthirits, and all kinds of cardiac conditions and stomach problems. Warm water gargles by its fruits also relieves all types of throat infections. Devendra Sharma, secretary of the Van Sampda mentioned the efforts of Mr O P Sharma Vidyarthi for starting this educative cum awareness Tree talk initiative. He told the participants that these types of progarmme are being undertaken by them in different parts of Jammu city every Sunday morning. On this occasion, Santosh Sangra ex corporator of the area along with local residents and Van Sampda members planted a number of Amaltas saplings and herbs in the park. Among others who were present included CharanJeet Singh, Sanjay Sharma Dr Jagdish Singh, Ravi Dev Sharma, and Deepak Sethi were present.
