Akhoon reviews yatra arrangements, asks SRTC to provide adequate number of buses for sadhus, devotees | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JULY 17: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution and Transport, Mr Qamar Ali Akhoon today asked State Road Transport Corporation functionaries to make available sufficient number of buses for transporting Sadhus to valley for Amarnath Yatra. The Minister who visited Ram Mandir Purani Mandi where a large number of Sadhus are camping to undertake yatra to the cave shrine in Kashmir Valley and assured them that adequate arrangement would be made for their onward journey. The Minister also interacted with the local Mahant and inquired from him about the arrangements made for the comfortable stay of the devotees in the premises of the temple. Earlier, the Minister also visited Jammu basecamp at yatri niwas Bhagwati Nagar and reviewed the arrangements there. Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Mr Sanjeev Verma, who accompanied the minister, briefed him about the facilities being provided to the Yatris for their comfortable stay. The Minister said that the government is committed to ensure smooth conduct of the annual yatra and provide every possible facility to the devotees. He said that he have been closely monitoring the operation of SRTC and private transport to ensure that the devotees may not face any problem during their journey. Minister asked the CA&PD functionaries to conduct regular market checking and ensure that the yatris were not overcharged by the shopkeepers during their stay in Jammu. He also directed to keep a tab on the operation of private transporters to enforce the travel fare fixed by the government. Among others, Provincial President NC Mr. Rattan Lal Gupta, senior officers of concerned departments also accompanied with the Minister.
