Open Degree Colleges in Majalta and Chenani or face public wrath: Harsh
7/17/2011 11:05:47 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, July 17: Harsh Dev Singh NPP MLA and its working chairman has lambasted the state government for its policy of neglect and deprivation of district Udhampur represented by opposition in the Assembly and sought early opening of Degree Colleges in Majalta and Chenani tehsils without further delay.
He said that biased approach of State govt towards district Udhampur had evoked strong resentment amongst the general masses of the said district that were up in arms against the ruling ministers and had girded their loins to take to agitiational course.
He said that the state government should either announce the degree colleges for Majatta and Chenani tehsil at the earliest or face the public fury in the form of protests, demonstrations and gherao of ministers.
He called upon the public to be prepared for peaceful agitation against delinquent ministers who had played fraud with the genuine sentiments and aspirations of people of the said tehsils.
Singh said that both Majalta and Chennai fulfilled the eligibility criteria, norms and feasibility requirements for opening of degree colleges. He said that the UGC had also sanctioned colleges for Distt. Udhampur but one of the said colleges was arbitrarily and wrongfully shifted by the Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik to his native village Sarh Bagga.
He said that the state government had not only defied the UGC order but had also violated its own eligibility criteria by announcing degree colleges at village level in utter neglect of tehsils.
Harsh Dev Singh pointed out the Majalta tehsil had at least ten feeding schools at the level of 10+2 and the distance from nearest college at Udhampur was also around 45-55 Kms.
He said that it fulfilled all norms and criteria of new college as against Sarah Bagga village of Mahore tehsil which had no feeding school and no merit except it being the native village of Higher Education Minister.
He said likewise tehsil Chenani too had a strong claim for Degree College in view of several feeding schools and due to its remoteness and distance from existing Degree College.
Lambasting the govt. for its policies of bias and prejudice against certain areas and also for abuse of public exchequer and loot and plunder of tax payers' money for personal and political considerations, he warned the govt. to restore the degree cotleges meant for Majalta and Chenani. Harsh Dev Singh further warned the govt. to rectify the anomalous situation created in the matter of opening of new degree colleges and diversion of funds caused by it with vested interests. He said that the matter would be agitated at the highest foras and the concerned minister and bureaucrats would be proceeded against for fiscal and other violations committed by them in the process of utilization of public exchequer.
