“Green Jammu Plantation Campaign” launched

Jammu, July 17: On Sunday, Social Forestry Department J&K and WWF-India jointly launched “Green Jammu Plantation Campaign” at SOS Children Village Channi Rama Jammu.
The Launching function was attended by P.P. Sharma Ex. Prpl. CCF, Dr. C.M. Seth, Ex. Chairman Pollution Control Board, Ashwani Kumar Gupta, Regional Director Social Forestry, Vikram Gour, Dr. Shiv Datt Sharma, A.K. Khajuria, Secretary SOS Home, Santosh Magotra, Vice President, H.B. Khajuria, Member, Swarna Jamwal, Member, officers of Social forestry Department, Prominent NGO’s and students of SOS and Bal Bharti School attended the function.
A.K. Khajuria said that SOS Home has been participating in the National Environment Awareness Campaign for the last more than 5 years and in the year 2010 has been awarded as one of the best eco-friendly schools by the Ministry of Environment and Forest Govt. of India. He also said that the school has setup one Mini-Botanical garden, School Waste Management Pit, and one rain and rooftop water harvested tank. One herbal garden is also being setup shortly by the school.
He informed that the SOS Home and Bal Bharti School are registered as NGC and Paryavaran Mitra schools and under these two schemes they take up several eco activities for the environment education and awareness of the students.
Ashwani Gupta, said that the Green Jammu Campaign has been launched as a part of plantation drive during the Monsoons and shall continue for three months. He also said that plantation in NGC and Paryavaran Mitra schools shall be under taken jointly with the WWF-India, CEET and CEE. He also said that plantations in the colonies and Public Parks shall also be taken jointly with the support of local corporations, NGO’s and Morning Walker Associations. He said that more than 10 lack plants are available in nurseries and he has issued instructions to his staff to supply plants directly from the nurseries. He appealed to the civil society and media to cooperate to make Green Jammu Campaign successful.
On this occasion Dr. C.M.Seth, Vikram Gour, Dr. Shiv Datt Sharma and Santosh Mangotra also delivered lectures and made an appeal for all citizens to participate in this plantation drive to make Jammu Green Campaign successful. On this occasion more than 100 plants of medicinal and other economic values were planted by the school students and others who participated in the launching ceremony.
