CS discusses Rajiv Awas Yojana for urban houseless | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, JULY 18-Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal today chaired the first executive meeting to discuss the modalities for implementation of the Rajiv Awas Yojna in the State.Speaking in the meeting, the Chief Secretary said that the scheme has huge potential in transforming the slum areas into developed colonies with basic amenities, adding that the J&K Housing Board should fast-track its efforts in launching the programme to ensure benefits to urban houseless and slum dweller The Union Government in June introduced Rajiv Awas Yojana for slum dwellers under JNNURM on the lines of Indira Awas Yojana. In the preparatory phase states are required to prepare a plan of action based on geographic information system-enabled mapping for specific cities to be made slum-free. The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has nominated J&K Housing Board as nodal agency for implementation and co-ordination of the scheme. The scheme has been launched in six towns of the State -Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla Jammu, Udhampur and Kathua. The 1ST installment of Rs 236.8 lakhs has already been released for conducting slum survey in these towns.The executive committee discussed in detail the operationalisation and procedure for implementation of Rajiv Awas Yojna including expediting the allotment of Expression of Interest (EOI) for slum survey and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to be completed within a period of six months.
