EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, July 18 (KNS): 40th series of environmental programme ‘tree talk’ was organized in Zangli Lolab in Kupwara, in which more than 200 people participated While appreciating ‘tree talk’ DFO Kaaj, M S Lone,, said that Kupwara was a mountainous district with picturesque places like Lolab, Machhil, Farkian Top, Saadhna Top, Ragini, Ram-ki-Ladi, Keran, Karnaah and Drangiyari. He said that Machhil was Botanists’ Paradise as it was known for many rare endemics like Veeri Tethven (Willow leaved Wormwood, Artemisia amygdalina), Kashmiri Patrees (Kashmir Aconite, Aconitum Kashmiricum), Mohar Chhad (Purple Angelica, Angelica archangelica), Kashmir Honey suckle ( Hedysarum cashmerianum ), Resha Khatmi (Kashmir Tall Mallow, Lavatera cashmeriana), Pushkar (Horse heal, Inula racemosa). DFO Kehmil D P Singh said that Farkian Top was alpine mountain ridge followed by Ram ki Ladi, Ragini hill and Saadhna Top. Senior Forest Officer O P Sharma (IFS) shared that Sadhnatop was rich in Geraniums, Larkspurs, Speedwells, Buttercups, Wild strawberries, Raspberries, Knotweeds, Rocksplitters, Senecios, Artemisias, Gentianas, Primulas, forget me nots, Sheepberries, Windflowers, White Columbines, Cobra plants, Cinquefoils, Wild roses, Fritillarias , Violas and Inulas. Well known group of folk artists led by Abdul Ahad presented a musical programme on the occasion which mesmerized the gathering and enthused the participants before they started walk through the woods.
