4 army, 2 CRPF men held with 6 weapons | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU: In a case of issuance of gun licences to people from outside the state, government railway police (GRP) today detained four army jawans and two CRPF cops after they were found in possession of six .12 bore guns. The gun licences were alleged to have been issued by district magistrate (DM), Poonch. Talking to media persons, GRP SSP Raghubir Singh said all nakas had been put on high alert in view of the ongoing Amarnath yatra and the recent Mumbai blasts. One such naka party laid hands on the six security personnel late last night when cops recovered guns from them. When the weapons were detected in their luggage, they were getting ready to board a train, he informed. Singh said it became known during investigation that the gun licences had allegedly been issued to them by Poonch DM. They told police that an agent had charged Rs 5,000 from them for each licence. The guns were purchased by them from Khajuria gun house against these licences. Though actual cost of each gun is Rs 35,000, they had purchased it for Rs 11,000. This amounted to tax evasion. The SSP said when contacted by them, the concerned licence issuing authority claimed that no licence had been issued to outsiders. The documents issued by home department for carrying weapons outside the state were also being verified, he informed. He said a case in this connection has been registered and further investigation was in progress. |
