Fortis hospital introduces Fourth Generation Knee joint implant in North India
7/19/2011 10:40:23 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, July 19: Fortis Hospital Mohali became the first hospital in North India to adopt the most advanced 4th generation knee implant with navigation for arthritis patients undergoing knee replacement surgery.
The new knee joint implant is the most advanced technology for younger and high demanding patients and provides higher range of motion compare to other conventional surgeries available in India.
Announcing this, Dr Manuj Wadhwa, Director and Head, Joint Replacement Unit, Fortis Mohali said,“The new 4th Generation knee implant is the most advanced design available in the world to meet these needs of the demanding population.
It can provide high range of motion up to 150 degree, a longer implant life and enable patients to live pain free for the rest of their lives.” This new Rotating Platform ligament preserving High Flexknee (CR 150) technology has a cutting edge over existing knee replacement which could give a limited bending with higher wear rates and bone cutting during surgery. This High flexion design maintains contact area in deep knee flexion and assures implant stability and longevity.
He adds, “Today’s changing life style & increased life expectancy resulted in greater number of patients opting for Total Knee Arthroplasty at an earlier age than ever before. Considering the needs of the active lifestyle & long life expectancy the new generation knee design of Sigma CR-150 is a new age knee implant to address the vital needs of the demanding patients. These patients, who are young, want to get back their life in its fullest form and want to continue the freedom of movement enabling them to indulge in sports, travel, driving, trekking, sitting on the floor and socializing.”
Dr. Wadhwa, who performed this revolutionary surgery on Parvinder Kaur 55 year old patient said, “We were reluctant on using conventional implants as the patient’s demand levels were higher and had a higher life expectancy. We used this new implant which is bone preserving, retains natural ligaments, has higher flexibility and durability.”
