Capacity building workshop for women managers begins | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, July 19 (KNS): For the capacity building of women managers in higher education, five-day UGC sponsored workshop began at Women’s College M A Road here on Tuesday. While inaugurating the workshop Minister for Higher Education Abdul Ghani Malik stressed on reservation for women in the Parliament and Legislative Assembly to utilize their managerial capacities for the welfare of the Country. He also emphasized the need for strengthening the Women’s Studies Centres. Core Group Resource Person, NCC, UGC, Prof Pam Rajput in her address appreciated the J&K government for its efforts in the field of women empowerment. She said that the election of a good number of female sarpanchs in the recently conducted Panchayat elections was a clear indication that women were willing to take responsibilities. Prof Rajput identified the huge gap existing between the work input of women and share which they get in form of income and positions. She made an appeal to the Minister to ensure the selection of meritorious women managers in the universities and colleges. Co-Chairperson NCC, UGC, Prof. Sushila Koushik pleaded for the creation of an environment in higher education where in women become part of decision making process. Regional Coordinator North West, Prof Poonam Dhawan commented on the need for looking beyond the stereotypes. Principal of the College, Prof. Tadzin Jolden highlighted the role which the College has been playing in the empowerment of women of the state. The vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Rafia Rashid and Prof. Sadaf Bashir.
