Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2011: Weather forecast during 20th – 24th July | Health Advisory for Shri Amarnathji pilgrims | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, JULY 19 – In the wake of pilgrims continuing to lose their lives on the arduous tracks en-route the Holy Cave of Shri Amarnathji, since the beginning of the Yatra on June 29, Mr. Preet Pal Singh, Additional Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, has once again appealed to all the intending pilgrims to embark upon the Yatra only after having their physical fitness checked from a doctor. “No person who has any serious medical or orthopedic ailment, or any breathing, chest or heart problem should plan to undertake this arduous Yatra, which involves climbing up to nearly 14,000 feet”, he added. Trekking in the high altitude route to the Holy Cave is quite difficult and, besides, inclement weather also poses challenges for the pilgrims. Doctors and paramedical staff along the two routes, via Pahalgam and Baltal, have been deployed for providing emergency medicare and treatment to the pilgrims. The Additional CEO also urged the intending pilgrims to strictly adhere to the Do’s and Don’ts issued by the Shrine Board for the Yatris visiting the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Amarnathji, which are also printed on the reverse of the Yatra Permit and, besides, available on the Board’s website, as they have to undertake a very arduous trek through high mountains under adverse weather conditions. Mr. Singh said that as per the Meteorological Department’s weather forecast for 20th July to 24th July: it would be partly cloudy from 20th July to 22nd July and there is a possibility of light rain/thundershowers during 23rd July – 24th July, 2011, in the Kashmir Division. Mr. Singh has advised all those who intend to visit the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Amarnathji, located at 13,500 feet, to ascertain the obtaining weather conditions in the Yatra area before embarking on the pilgrimage. The forward movement of Yatris towards the Holy Cave had started on the Baltal route early in the morning today but had to be stopped on account of rain. It was commenced after 8 a.m. on the Chandanwari route. The Additional CEO stated that, as per the latest reports, the movement of Yatris has since been progressing smoothly on both the Baltal and Chandanwari routes.
