Campaign against sub standard, expired eatables will continue: Dir. CAPD | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, JULY 19: To stop and check the selling and purchasing of the expired and sub standard eatable commodities, a checking squad of department of CAPD under the chairmanship of Director, CAPD, Mr. A W Tak today during the market checking seized some expired and sub standard commodities at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar and accordingly FIR was registered against the erring shopkeeper. Talking with media persons today the Director said that from 2007 to 2009 expired and sub standard eatable items like baby food, biscuits, juice, and spices etc which were hazardous for the human consumption being sold from this shop to consumers. He said it is our prime responsibility to see whether the consumers are being sold standard eatables on the Govt fixed prices. He appealed to the media and common people to cooperate with the department for eradication of this menace of selling expired and sub standard eatables which are detterious for the health of the common people particularly the children. He said that unless consumers cooperate with the department, the Govt agencies may not be able to control such evils alone. He said due to tourist influx in the valley, there has been a tremendous increase in the consumption of these eatables. He said that the consumers should verify the batch No. and expiry and manufacturing date when they purchase such items. However, the Director assured the people that the enforcement agency of the CAPD will continue its vigil on the market and whosoever is found guilty in selling sub standard, expiry and un-hygienic items would be punished under law.
