College students hold protest, disrupt traffic | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 19: Up in arms against the government’s “criminal silence” over the delay in start of Jammu Central University (JCU), students in degree colleges of Jammu city on Tuesday disrupted the vehicular movement at Canal road and demanded that the Central varsity be made functional at the earliest. Agitating students of GGM Science College, GDC Paloura and SPMR College of Commerce took out rallies from their respective colleges and gathered on the main road outside GGM Science College to protest the government’s alleged dilly dallying tactics vis-à-vis setting up of the central university in Jammu. They raised slogans against the central as well as the state government and alleged that both the governments were playing with the careers of the students. The students boycotted their classes on the call of National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) which has launched indefinite agitation for early start of Central University. The agitation entered 18th consecutive day on Tuesday. The students had also minor scuffle with the police personnel after the former were stopped from disrupting the vehicular movement. Addressing the protestors, state vice-president Young Panthers and incharge NPSU Pushvinder Singh Manhas lambasted the government for “dilly dallying tactics” and for allegedly taking the people of Jammu region far granted. He also lambasted the MPs, Ministers, MLAs, MLCs and leaders from Jammu region who, he alleged, have maintained silence over the issue. He appealed the student community in particular and pubic in general of Jammu region to get united and be ready for the struggle of re-organisation of the state which, he said, the ultimate and final solution of the J&K problem. Similarly, the students of GDC Ramnagar, GDC Udhampur, GDC Samba and GDC Akhnoor also boycotted their classes.
