Kishtwar Police Foils SBI ATM loot | | | Asif Iqbal Naik kishtwar: In a swift and rare action of its kind, Kishtwar police tonight foiled a midnight loot attempt in ATM of State Bank of India Kishtwar branch situated near Om Mehta road. The ATM was having above 38 lakh cash in it when the burglars attempted to loot it on Tuesday at 12.45 AM, when most of the people were in deep sleep. Police parties within minutes after receiving information reached the spot and cordoned off the complex housing ATM. Police isolated the main burglar from inside the ATM compartment and arrested him on the spot.While briefing media persons at his office, Abrar Chowdhary Dy Superintendent of Police Headquarters Kishtwar informed that at 12.35 AM when he was still awake at his official residence, he received a call from a local of some breakage sounds in a lane inside Om Mehta Road in Kishtwar town. He said that on receiving the information he along with the SHO Police Station Kishtwar Mohammad Arif and police parties reached the spot and cordoned off the whole complex housing the shop in which the ATM was located. Police sensed the presence of some person inside the ATM shop and called the state bank officials on spot. Police observed that one of the burglars after breaking the lock of shutter of the shop housing ATM entered inside and downed the shutter and the other reportedly stood outside to keep watch on anyone coming around. The identity and presence of the second burglar is yet to be confirmed by the police.On opening the shop's shutter police located the burglar inside who on interrogation disclosed his name as Sheetal Kumar Sharma Son of Late Sh. Lakhmi Chand Sharma resident of Shakti Nager Kishtwar running a photo studio shop at near Shaheedi Mazar Kishtwar. Police arrested the accused on the spot and sealed the shop for examination by FSL team. Police alerted the FSL team in PCR Doda to report for examination. The scene of crime was got examined by Dy SP Headquarters in his presence of senior officers beside through the FSL team led by Inspector Imtyaz Hussain. The FSL team has lifted useful fingerprints from inside the compartment housing ATM and from the ATM itself. Police has registered a case under section 457/380/427/511 RPC at police station Kishtwar. "Police is expecting breakthrough in many other cases of theft and burglaries of past after the arrest of Sheetal Kumar" said Abrar A Chowdhary. Mr. Chowdhary said that the same burglar Sheetal Kumar Sharma last year burgled a shop near Dak Banglow Kishtwar but that time he was let off due to lack of evidence. Police have also recovered an iron rod, one jute beg and big stone which the accused Sheetal Kumar carried at the time of burglary. Public at large has highly appreciated the swift action of police in the shortest possible time. The prompt and professional action of police has restored the confidence of public in Kishtwar town. It may be mentioned that two years back, the buglers manage to decamped with Rs. One crore Six lacs and forty Eight thousands from the branch of J & K Bank Kishtwar and out of the stolen cash police only manage to recover 51 lacs from the arrested persons involved in the theft, but the mystery continues about the where abouts of reaming Rs. 65 lacs and 48000. |
