Poonch proves Omar's Waterloo Sarpanches, Panches stay away | | | Amit Sharma EARLY TIMES REPORT poonch, July 19: Ailing Omar's damage control efforts in Poonch did not bear the desired fruit. Majority of the newly elected Panches and Sarpanches especially owing allegiance to peoples democratic Party (PDP) stayed away from the functions held at Surankote, Mendher and Poonch. According to reports 150 Panches out of 500 from Bufliaz-Surankote blocks attended the Chief Minister's function. Mendher and Poonch functions had a similar story to tell. Reports said around 70% of the newly elected Panches and sarpanches did not turn up. As per District President of PDP, Abdul Hameed Manhas, no Panch or Sarpanch was willing to participate in Omar's programme. "It was their own choice. there was no paty direction to this effect", he said. Manhas said, "Our associate Sarpanches and panches are of the view that National Conference leaders have always mislead people by promising this and that but they have done nothing on ground." The locals believe former Chief Minister Mufti sayed managed a better show in Poonch-Rajouri district during his recent visit. "people participated in large numbers in Mufti's functions", they said. |
