| Hizb ready for 'conditional' ceasefire: Salahuddin | | | SRINAGAR, NOV 28 Hizbul Mujahideen supremo Syed Salahuddin has said the militant outfit is ready for a "conditional ceasefire" and that it is not necessary to include the group in any tripartite talks involving India, Pakistan and the Kashmiri people.
The United Jehad Council (UJC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), of which Salahuddin is the chairman, was ready for a ceasefire on three conditions - "unconditional release of prisoners, troops going to 1989 position and stoppage of human rights violations" he said
"I will be the happiest person if guns fall silent from both sides. But for this, India will have to take some solid steps," he told a local news agency in an interview published here today.
Salahuddin demanded tripartite talks involving Pakistan, India and Kashmiris but UJC's presence was "not important" in such an event as a number of people were active on the political front to represent the Kashmiris.
"If our presence is imperative, we too will join talks," he said adding, it was not important where the talks were held but the agenda "is really important".
He dismissed reports that Pakistani authorities have tightened their grip on Kashmiri ultras, saying "such reports are false. The biggest proof of such reports being incorrect is my presence in Muzaffarabad (capital of PoK)".
He also alleged that the Hurriyat leaders were "cleverly trying to paint the talks" they were having with New Delhi as genuine".
On the issue of return of Kashmiri Pandits, he said "I have respect for them but their return to Kashmir under the prevailing circumstances would create complications." |
