EARLY TIMES REPORT
Kishtwatr , July 20: People of Kishtwar has urged the concerned DC to initiate probe against GREF constructions regarding use of substandard material in construction of road/drains on both side of National highway by GREF authorities in Kishtwar District.
The issue was first raised by PDP district president Shakir Hussain Siddiqui in the meeting chaired by the Qamar Ali Akhoon, Minister for Consumer affair and Public Distribution Department.
Siddiqui quoted the news item published in this newspaper and informed the minister that GREF officials in Kishtwar district were indulged in sub standard work in construction of drains / roads in Kishtwar district particularly from Malipath Chowk to Girinager Kishtwar.
He informed the minister that despite bringing the matter into the notice of district administration, the sub standard work on behalf of the GREF is still going on.
As soon as Sidiqqui raised the issue of substandard work by the GREF authorities, he was supported by MLA Kishtwar Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, district Youth President National Conference Imtiyaz Ahmed Zarger, state secretary Congress Thakur Jughal Bhandari, state secretary Panthers Party Anil Parihar and other prominent citizens present in public who met with the concerned minister.
All the politicians unanimously demand for action against the GREF for using clay mixed sand and other sub standard material used in construction of roads and drains.
They alleged that the construction work of widening of Kishtwar-Sinthan-Srinager road is going on at slow pace.
After listening about the allegation leveled unanimously by all party leaders including members from civil society, Akhoon directed Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Hussain Malik to take up the matter of use of sub standard material in construction of drains on National highway with chief engineer GREF.
Akhoon also adviced DDC Kishtwar, that being as the head of the district, he is duty bound to check the progress of the various construction projects irrespective of the nature of the executing agency whether from state Government or from the Central Government like GREF.
He said that all the working agencies, private or central will fall under the ambit of law applicable in Jammu and Kashmir.
Public representatives hailed the directions passed by the minister and hoped that DDC Kishtwar will initiate action against GREF authorities as applicable under law.
