Lekhi lambasts Diggy, BJP lambasts Congress | "Communalising Terror" | | Rustam EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 20: As if the Congress' appeasement policy was not enough to give legitimacy to the politics of communalism and separatism and promote the Pakistan cause in the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, some top-ranking leaders have unleashed a no-holds-barred propaganda blitz against the RSS saying "RSS is a bomb-producing outfit" and "RSS is responsible for the rise of terrorism in India." One of the said Congress leaders is none other than Digvijay Singh, AICC general secretary and former Cm of MP. The other leader is the party spokesperson and former Minister of State Home Affairs Shakkel Ahmad. It was Digvijay who found in dastardly 13/7 terrorist attacks in Mumbai an opportunity to paint the RSS, the VHP and the BJP black. He virtually suggested that RSS could be behind the Mumbai terrorist attacks, when left no less than 20 civilians dead and over 125 others wounded. He also suggested that the investigating agencies should not ignore the RSS angle. A day before, his master Rahul Gandhi, who is desperate to become Prime Minister, had overruled the possibility of no bomb blasts in Mumbai, saying that it was not always possible to pre-empt militants' strike. Both made irresponsible statements and that the security scenario in India is much reassuring as compared to Pakistan. There was no need for them to make such statements, but they made. The timing was crucial. They made these statements at a time when the nation was mourning the deaths of the innocent civilians, Hindus and Muslims included. It is obvious their intentions were not noble. These statements must have encouraged Pakistan and Pakistani agents in Kashmir and elsewhere to carry out more such attacks in India and take away more innocent lives. Rahul and Digvijay evoked very sharp reaction from several political formations. The BJP condemned Rahul and Diggy. The Shiv Sena (Bal Thakre) condemned them and demanded arrest of Rahul on the charge of sedition. The RSS also upped its ante and denounced Diggy and other Congress leaders in downright language. But nothing positive came out of this sharp reaction. On the contrary, Shakeel Ahmed defended what Diggy had said and the MP unit of the Congress rebutted all the charges levelled against Rahul, saying "Rahul was misquoted to draw political mileage." As for the other Congress spokespersons, they went in hibernation, thus giving an indication that Rahul, Diggy and Ahmad were quite competent to handle the situation arising out of what these Congress leaders said in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks. However, while Rahul thought it politically expedient to keep quite and not to say anything more on the issue, Diggy reiterated his charge against the RSS, the VHP and the BJP and shamelessly asserted that "he had enough proof to prove that that these organizations are involved in terrorist activities." This reiteration again evoked a very sharp reaction not only from the RSS and the BJP but also from one the senior Supreme Court lawyer Meenakshi Lekhi, daughter of former Supreme Court Judge and a leading legal luminary. The BJP termed Diggy as a small man, accused him of communalising terrorism and speaking "his master's voice" (read Sonia Gandhi and Rahul) and publicly stated that the Congress was all out to play mischief for the sake of vote-bank politics. The BJP opined that Diggy and his Congress party were only striving to derail the ongoing investigation into the circumstances under which the militants could carry out terrorist attacks and destabilize and disintegrate the nation. The meaning of what the BJP said was loud and clear and the meaning was that the Congress and the Jihadis were hand-in-glove with each other. The RSS termed Diggy as a "street bully" and said "it would be below dignity to make more comments on Diggy." It was Meenakshi Lehki who was more severe in her criticism against Diggy. She denounced him as a "spokesperson of Taliban and Pakistan." She was so angry that she was not prepared to listen to a single word in support of Diggy. So much so that she openly accused Diggy of hobnobbing with "jihadis" and virtually stopped the MP Congress spokesperson and Vinod Sharma of the Hindustan Times from defending Diggy and the Congress. The outraged and the nationalist Lekhi took this position while participating in the NDTV India-sponsored debate on the issue last night. One cannot but agree with the reaction the Rahul's and Diggy's unwarranted statements evoked, and continue to evoke. Both of them seem to be working as per a strategy and the words and deeds of both these Congress "leaders" have been simply weakening the nation, lowering the morale of the security forces and investigating agencies and creating an environment that helps terrorists and communalists to roam about freely and strike at will. There is no doubt that the Congress has become a controversial outfit with Sonia Gandhi calling the shots and all others in the Congress dancing to her tunes in order loot and plunder the nation and taxpayers' money. |
