Newly recruited KP youth running from pillar to post for salaries for last 6 months | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 20: What can be more apathy and callousness of the State Government towards the displaced Kashmiri Pandits than this that it (Government) has failed to release the salaries of hundreds of newly appointed migrant employees in Kashmir Valley for last five to six months. The failure of the Government to pay the salaries to these hapless employees has put a question mark on its return and rehabilitation policy of displaced Pandits in Vallley with honour and dignity. The Kashmiri Pandits questioning the policy of state and Central Government in this regard say that when it could not pay salaries and provide other facilities to the 1700 newly recruited employees of the community in Valley how can it claim to rehabilitate the four lakh displaced Pandits who were forced to leave the Valley on gun point in 1989-90. These newly recruited KP employees were not only deprived of their salaries for last six months but the Government has also stopped their relief, said P N Pandits general secretary Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC). He, while making a dig at the Government accused it of adopting a rigid approach towards the demands of displaced Pandits. He alleged that there is shortage of accommodation in Kashmir to accommodate these employees and two to three people are asked to share a room. This is a serious issue. The Government should have taken steps for construction of more quarters to accomodate all employees properly, he added. Moreover the Government should also take steps in mitigating the other sufferings of these employees. There is water scarcity as well as power crisis in Vessu quarters and the Government has failed to look into this problem despite the repeated pleas by these employees to concerned authorities, said Satish Pajnoo state president of KPC. He said that while one month pay was released in favour of migrant employees of some districts those of Baramulla and Kupwara were deprived of the same also. The Government should look into the matter as it is a human problem. If these employees have to perform certain formalities for their verification still the Government should at least have released the 50 percent of their salaries, he added. The migrant employees are totally held up for want of money and they are not in a position to meet their expenses as their families who are dependent on cash assistance from Government are nit also in a position to meet out their expenses. In case the payment of salaries are delayed for more time it will force these employees to quit the job and join private sector said Dr Ramesh a social activist. He urged the Government to take early steps in releasing the salaries to these hapless employees and also issue directives to CID and other departments to complete their verifications as early as possible so that these employees are not made to suffer any long. He said there is no such rule to withhold the salaries of the employees till completion of the formalities and clearance from CID and other intelligence wings. If any organization does not clear any employee after six months or year does it mean that he will not be paid his salary for the period he worked in the Department, he asked? Criticizing the Government policy in this regard he said the same be reviewed and orders be issued immediately for release of salaries to all the newly recruited displaced employees serving in Valley. |
