CPI(M) holds protest rally against rampant corruption in Govt corridors

JAMMU, July 20: Day long massive dharna and protest rally was organized by Jammu Regional committee of CPI(M). Party workers and sympathizers assembled in front of Press Club Jammu against prevailing rampant corruption in Government corridors and spiraling price rise especially of food grains and petroleum products.
Carrying banners and placards in their hands and raising slogans against skyrocketing price rise of petroleum products including kerosene oil, cooking gas, diesel and prevalence of unabated corruption practices in government corridors and public life, the rally passed though the main bazaars including Dogra Chowk, Jewel Chowk, Gumat Chowk, Raghunath Bazar and culminated at Indra Chowk where senior party leaders addressed the protest demonstration.
While addressing the demonstration Comrade Sham Prasad Kesar, Regional Secretary CPI(M), Jammu said that the decision to increase the prices of petro-products was cruel blow to the common people who are already suffering from the unabated price rise of the essential commodities.
He further said the arguments being put forward by the centre Government in defense of the price hike did not hold any water. He strongly urged the government to immediately release the list of hundred top direct tax defaulters in the income tax and corporate tax categories along with the amount recoverable.
Sarpanch Omprakash, Sarpanch Kishore Kumar and Comrade Bishan Dass, State Committee members of the party demanded adaption of Lok Pal Legislation covering Prime Minister, constitution of National Judicial Commission to curb corruption in higher judiciary, Implementation of electoral reforms including introduction of proportional representation system to check money power in politics and steps to unearth black money and illegal money in foreign banks.
Besides, Comrades Banarsi Dass, Sohan Lal, Dharam Singh, V K Vaid and Ramesh Chand members, Regional Committee, Jammu also addressed the gathering.
