| Nexus between lawmakers, businessmen: CPI-M | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar : There is a nexus between lawmakers, businessmen and bureaucrats in the country to sustain corruption, M.Y. Tarigami, secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), said at a rally here Wednesday. "We have held interactions with the civil society, organised demonstrations and held seminars against corruption. The entire machinery of the government from Delhi to Srinagar is plagued by corruption," said Tarigami. "Since 1969, we have been talking about the (anti-graft) Lokpal bill and till date nothing substantial has been done in this direction other than delaying the adoption of the bill," Tarigami told party workers after a rally in Srinagar against corruption. "Fingers have even been raised at some members of the judiciary. That is the level and reach of corruption in the country," he said.
"We need a grievance redressal cell which is really effective and not the one we have at present in the state where grievances remain pending without any redressal," he said.
Tarigami also spoke about the anti-graft state accountability commission (SAC). "When the commission was formed, we were told that a new chapter had been opened in the history of the official anti-corruption campaign.
"What has happened? The commission is without a head and members for the last many years," Tarigami rued.
