| Nissar for comprehensive, broad based policy for disabled | | | Jammu, Nov 28 With regard to “Draft Policy for persons with Disabilities 2006” a Committee under the Chairmanship of Minister for social Welfare Haji Nissar Ali, a team of officers discussed various suggestions put forward by individuals and organizations over a period of time, here today. Besides ensuring that various policies and programmes encompassing better and quality life facilities get incorporated in the “Draft Policy” the meeting also decided that regular publicity will be made to create awareness among masses regarding the rights of people from disabled community and the duties of other people for ensuring better life for such people. The facilities as provided to such people in other states were also deliberated upon and it was decided that the policy will be comprehensive and broad based. It was also given out in the meeting that Government has already put up a proposal for enhancing the financial assistance as provided to disabled people to Rs. 600 per month from Rs. 300. It was also decided that a proper system of reservation for physically disabled persons in employment sector would be streamlined. To ensure better and quality education to the disabled children, the meeting was told that a recommendation to provide 20% reservation to such people in quality schools has already been proposed to the concerned authorities. Also the meeting decided that necessary directions to the authorities of the Health Department will be issued to exempt disabled patients from paying any entry fees as is normally levied on other patients and fee for partially payable facilities like X-rays, Ultra-sound etc as is charged on other patients. Among others who attended the meeting were Secretary Social-Welfare, Director Social-Welfare Jammu and other Officers from various Departments. |
