Tarigami slams govt. for lathcharging lecturers Calls for fulfilling their demands | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, July 21: State Secretary CPI (M) M Y Tarigami today took strong exception to the lathicharge incident on the college contractual lecturers, terming it an action totally uncalled for. It seems that government was running out of democratic options to deal with such issues, he said, adding that muscle power can never be panacea for all problems. In a statement issued here today, he urged the government to hold serious talks with the protesting lecturers and sort out their issues amicably. He said the college teachers are highly qualified and talented lot who can understand the difficulties of the government, if any should they be sensibly treated and brought on table. “Prima facie their demands seem to be genuine and legitimate. What is wrong if these teachers, who have been given the responsibility of shaping human resources, are given basic salary? Overload of their work will also tell upon the quality teaching”, he said. Tarigami said the government can ill afford continuity in stalemate as prolonged strikes will jolt academic session of college students, adding that the deadlock will thus have negative repercussions not only on the future of collegiate but also on the state.
